So, apparently there’s a new kid on the block. Well, not so much a new kid on the block, but kids from the old block who went and laid claim to another block. Ex-google employees started up their own search engine called Cuil (pronounced “cool”), and wow…..they have a long way to go. It’s not all bad though, there are some things I like about it, like the all black search page (I was always a fan of Google black).
It looks sleek on my Mac. Nice.
Another cool thing about it is the layout of the search results, which are laid out in columns of two or three, and includes an additional search drop downs in the upper right hand corner (top of the third column). These things are good.
It’s definitely not Google, that’s for sure; but at the same time, it’s something different. It’s sleek and simple. I’m going to keep playing around with this engine until it either dies off or something. Google is still my search engine of choice though.
Another cool thing about this search engine are all the cool add-ons and extensions that you can add to the search engine. Everything from which cluster you want to search from to dragging the search “blocks” out of the column format. You can check out all of the add-ons here:
