Damn, I can’t believe it….Phelps gets caught smoking pot. Wow. If your going to do it, and you’re someone like Phelps, don’t let someone take a picture of you doing it. It seems like everyone and their mother smokes weed nowadays. It might as well be legalized at this point. Documents suggest Microsoft knew Xbox 360 could damage discs all along

Microsoft long ago fessed up that the Xbox 360 was capable of scratching discs, and it even offered a (somewhat limited) exchange program for damaged games, but some recently unsealed documents from an ongoing lawsuit now suggest that the company was well aware of the issue for about as long as the console has been around. According to The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Microsoft first discovered the problem in September or October of 2005, and it even went so far as to send a “team of engineers” to stores across the US to determine the best course of action. Apparently, they came up with three options, two of which proved to be impractical, and one of which (installing small bumpers in each and every console) proved to be too expensive, leading Microsoft to offer the disc exchange instead. What’s more, the documents apparently also revealed that some Microsoft employees thought that the warning labels on the console were insufficient, and that the company has received complaints about the problem from more than 55,000 customers as of April 30th of this year. No word on any movement just yet in the lawsuits themselves just yet but one of them, filed back in July of 2007, is seeking class-action status on behalf of everyone that’s bought an Xbox 360.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal agents have broken up a plot by two neo-Nazi skinheads to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 102 black people, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives said Monday.

In court records unsealed Monday in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn., federal agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target a predominantly African-American high school in a murder spree that was to begin in Tennessee. Agents said the skinheads did not identify the school by name.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of ATF’s Nashville field office, said the two men planned to shoot 88 black people and decapitate another 14. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

The men also sought to go on a national killing spree after the Tennessee murders, with Obama as its final target, Cavanaugh told The Associated Press.

“They said that would be their last, final act — that they would attempt to kill Sen. Obama,” Cavanaugh said. “They didn’t believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying.”

An Obama spokeswoman traveling with the senator in Pennsylvania had no immediate comment.

The men, Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman 18, of West Helena, Ark., are being held without bond. Agents seized a rifle, a sawed-off shotgun and three pistols from the men when they were arrested. Authorities alleged the two men were preparing to break into a gun shop to steal more.

Attorney Joe Byrd, who has been hired to represent Cowart, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Monday.

Cowart and Schlesselman are charged with possessing an unregistered firearm, conspiring to steal firearms from a federally licensed gun dealer, and threatening a candidate for president.

The investigation is continuing, and more charges are possible, Cavanaugh said.

The court records say Cowart and Schlesselman also bought nylon rope and ski masks to use in a robbery or home invasion to fund their spree, during which they allegedly planned to go from state to state and kill people.

For the Obama plot, the legal documents show, Cowart and Schlesselman “planned to drive their vehicle as fast as they could toward Obama shooting at him from the windows.”

“Both individuals stated they would dress in all white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt,” the court complaint states. “Both individuals further stated they knew they would and were willing to die during this attempt.”

Cavanaugh said there’s no evidence — so far — that others were willing to assist Cowart and Schlesselman with the plot.

He said authorities took the threats very seriously.

“They seemed determined to do it,” Cavanaugh said. “Even if they were just to try it, it would be a trail of tears around the South.”

Meet Ashley Todd, a McCain-Palin campaign volunteer claimed she was attacked by a mugger who she said carved a “B” into her cheek with a knife. She claims that a black male mugged her at the ATM. During this “muggery” the black male became enraged when he noticed her McCain bumber sticker, punched her in the back of the head, knocked her to the ground, and said ”you are going to be a Barack supporter”. He then proceeded to cut a backwards “B” into her cheek. She now admits to making up the story and police say Todd now faces charges of filing a false police report and possibly other charges. Wow.

I can’t believe that she tried to use the Susan Smith defense. But then again, given the tone of the McCain campaign, I actually can.

This is the Comment of the Week, something that I’m going to start blogging. Have you ever read the comments to a news story or article and thought to yourself, “damn, that was a good comment”?. Well, I do.

THE FOLLOWING COMMENT WAS POSTED ON WIRED.COM IN RESPONSE TO THE “McCain’s VP Wants Creationism Taught in School” ARTICLE.

“This should have nothing to do with being a Republican or a Democrat, because this issue is, no question, NOT political, but they insist on making it political. This is religion, which IS SUPPOSED TO BE SEPARATE FROM THE GOVERNMENT, and education, which is, when publically provided, an extension of that government. It is simply not acceptable that our government bodies be given the right to dictate the religious education of our children.
Advocating religion be taught in schools is a violation of a foundation of our country – lack of government mandated religion. That’s why we left the island across the pond in the first place. They have no place to decide what children should be taught with regards to beliefs that should be the decision of themselves and their parents, not what their government decides.
To teach creationism as science is also an affront to science itself. Not because it’s bad, or unimportant to the people who believe it, but because it just isn’t science. This is far past mentioning the belief (I will not use the word “theory” as it is not a theory) as an alternate viewpoint of the origins of man, maybe giving a brief synopsis of what it is: “Some people believe that God created the entire world in 6 24-hour days, culminating in man’s creation. They deny evolutionary theory,” and informing them that if they wish to learn more about this idea, to ask their parents or a preacher, and moving on. This is calling creationism science. This is subjecting all students to an idea that is not at all related to the scientific prinicples and telling them it’s valid as a theory. That undermines their education, because it is teaching a complete lie – that the scientific community accepts creationism as a valid scientific theory.
If you believe creationsim is the truth of the matter, so be it, there is nothing at all wrong with that. But it cannot be claimed that it is science. It is clearly a religious belief. Thus it is not up to the public schools (ie, government) to educate our children on it. My children will be taught matters of faith in the manner that I see fit, not on how the administration sees fit.
And I’m going to defend Brandon, this is a completely ridiculous stance for a potentially high-ranking government official to be taking, as it is 100% unconstitutional. Haven’t we already had enough of this? Haven’t we lost enough rights without opening to door to government sanctioned faith as well? This is positively abhorrent. And it would be just as disgusting a proposition were it the Democrats trying it.
